On Monday February 6, 2006 IDSA Chicago hosted a standing-room only Photoshop Illustration demo at the Apple Store on Michigan Avenue. Not only was this event well received within the product design community (over 100 people showed) but the Apple store was excited by the interest, and are excited to collaborate with the IDSA for future events.
The workshop was run by Tony Ruth, founder of Vessel Ideation, Inc, instructor at Columbia College, and Photoshop-rendering guru. (We're gonna make him blush) Tony demonstrated digital illustration techniques that are geared towards rapid visualization of product concepts. The presentation took the audience through the process of building lifelike still images, using Tony's techniques that emphasize speed, realism, and intuitive control of the software.
Loose initial concept sketching from the Cintiq into Photoshop.
Using Illustrator to create tight linework over top of an ortho sketch.
Blocking in color and general highlights and shadows in Photoshop.
Fully rrendered surfaces with detailed highlights and low lights.
