Advanced Concepts Manager/Director

The Opportunity
The newly created position will play a key role in the continued growth and success of the company.  Working closely with the Vice President of Product Development you will lead the development of the Advanced Concepts team – working on projects 1-2 years ahead of the product launch date.  Specific responsibilities include:

  • Investigate new materials, technologies, manufacturing methods for possible application to Radio Flyer products
  • Evaluate consumer research to identify consumer insights for new product concepts
  • Brainstorm new product concepts and lead the early development of new products from concept through to the prototype stage
  • Build mock-ups and prototypes to evaluate the engineering feasibility of new product concepts
  • Create engineering solutions for new product concepts and develop those solutions to a working model stage
  • Effectively communicate design intent and project details to domestic vendors or overseas engineering staff (including travel to China) for preliminary costing evaluation.
  • Experience with CAD and a variety of rapid prototyping technologies is required

The Requirements
A degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Design is required with a minimum of 10 years experience designing consumer products.   Above all, the individual must be an effective problem solver who is committed to producing products of exceptional quality and beautiful design.

He or she will know how to balance multiple priorities, and work toward big picture objectives without losing sight of important details.  Organization, planning, execution, and follow-up skills are important.

DESIGN ENGINEER (CAD – Solidworks)

Responsibilities include:
The newly created position will play a key role in the continued growth and success of the company.  Working closely with the Project Managers and VP of Product Development you will contribute to building a world-class product development department.  Specific responsibilities include:

  • Develop solid models, engineering drawings and BOMS’s for new product concepts.
  • Create and maintain 3-D CAD Models and Assemblies using SolidWorks and work with overseas Engineering staff on design for manufacturability.
  • Design parts in a variety of materials and processes including injection molded, blow-molded and roto-molded plastics, metal fabrication and assemblies, fabric construction and wood components.
  • Create prototype parts of CAD models using rapid prototyping technologies and traditional model making techniques.
  • Design complicated mechanical assemblies including components, mates, constraints and part interactions.

 

Requirements include:

  • B.S. Mechanical Engineering preferred, will consider Associate’s degree in related field
  • 5 + years of work experience using Solidworks to create unique solutions to mechanical challenges
  • Experience designing parts for a variety of manufacturing processes (injection molded, blow-molded and roto-molded plastics, metal fabrication and assemblies, fabric construction and wood components)
  • Candidate must be an effective problem solver and able to effectively communicate designs to Product Development team.
