IDSA Chicago Chapter Student Event
Click This Link To Register!
Date: 4/3/2010
Cost: $15 for IDSA members and $20 for non-members
Location: Columbia College, WONG CENTER, 623 S. Wabash, 1st floor
Registration: Students will register in advance. Students who register will be assigned a slot and added to the schedule.
Description: The purpose of this event is to get students comfortable with presenting their portfolios to an audience and to get valuable feedback from professional designers. The event will consist of a group of professionals that will meet one on one with students for 10 minutes and then the students will move to the next professional. In this way, students will get the input that they need from a number of different viewpoints and experience levels. This will both hone their presentation skills and help them to focus their presentations.
Students should come to the event prepared for a 10 minute presentation of their work. While the format is up to the individual, the student is responsible for all presentation materials and equipment. Therefore, if the presentation is digital, students will need to provide their own laptop for viewing. Students should focus on communicating key points and demonstrating their talent as a designer through carefully selected projects. This is not meant to be an exhaustive review of their entire portfolio.
Professionals: We will be contacting a range of professionals from the local design community to volunteer their time.
Schedule:
10:00-10:30am Introduction and Organization
10:30-12:30pm Portfolio reviews
12:30pm-1:00pm Break for lunch
1:00pm- 2:30pm Portfolio reviews |

Using Story to Design Products and Experiences
Using industrial and product design, human-centered design, scenario planning, design research, and design heuristics/thinking, designers give form to concepts and bring successful offerings to market and/or to deliver profitable differentiated experiences. This conference seeks to explore the use of "Story" in existing objects and the use of "Storytelling" in the development of new objects and experiences.
