Format Change:
The format of this
debate was changed
slightly for this event,
as an experiment:
We rotated the
main Fighters with
volunteers from
the crowd. Although
the event went well,
it didn't have the
momentum that
the original format
had. The next
debate went back to
the original format.

November 2003: Sex and violence

After the success of the first Fight Club we knew there had to be a follow up debate:
Censorship, Internet pornography, nudity, prime time violence.

Most of Europe and Canada have less than 100 mortalities per year through violence, whereas the US averages around 11,000 through guns alone. The US has also cornered the market in its pornography business and yet has one of the tightest restrictions on nudity on TV. Is it not also contradictory to blur out partial nudity while we can watch decapitations in full gory detail on primetime TV?

This fight was a wide-ranging battle, with many, many issues. The battles were scattered, but gradually became equally as passionate as the first Fight Club. What was different this time was that there were three people who didn't join in -all three were members of the press. We were able to read about their impressions the following week in UR Chicago, The Chicago Reader and the Chicago Journal (see these on the photos page). Fight Club made the latter's front page headlines; Lingua Frantic, with pictures on Page 1 and 4. Fight Club was gathering momentum....
